Chinese New Year 2022 | CNY 2022

When it comes to red packets, it’s about what’s on the inside that counts 😉 However, we all love a beautifully-designed red packet don’t we? Some of you may get free red packets from banks, but that leaves you with a design that everyone has.

Switch it up this year by redeeming exclusive red packets from an organisation that is known for all things Chinese Singaporean! In celebration of SCCC’s 5th anniversary, calligraphy master Yong Cheong Thye and young illustrator Toby Tan (Tobyato) collaborated on a set of unique red packet designs! Featuring a stencilled tiger and the character fu (福) written in five different calligraphy scripts, these designs showcase the evolution of culture, and represent the fusion of traditional and modern art forms.

From left to right: Zhuanshu (Seal script), Lishu (Clerical script), Kaishu (Standard script), Xingshu (Running script), Caoshu (Cursive script)

Chinese characters have evolved through the centuries. From the earliest oracle bone script to later developments like the seal, regular, running and cursive scripts, they reflect changes in our ways of life over time. Just like the scripts, our culture is ever-evolving. Let’s continue to enrich it through creativity and innovation!

Thank you everyone for the amazing support! All red packets have been collected. Don’t forget to check out other events at the Centre:

SINGAPO人 exhibition (Level 2)
One of Us, All of Us exhibition (Level 1)
Life is Sweet exhibition (Level 9 & 10)
Sculpture Walk: reTHINGing the Site (Level 1, 9 & 10)
